What is omega-3, which foods are rich in omega-3?
Omega-3 is one of the unsaturated fatty acids that can not be produced by the body and must be consumed from our diet or through supplements. Among the essential omega-3 fatty acids, ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) is found in vegetable sources, while EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are found in animal sources. EPA and DHA are found mainly in salmon, mackerel, herring, tuna and anchovy. ALA is found in foods such as flax seeds and walnuts.
